Our annual, spring show, after going three years without the opportunity to produce and present such a show, went off without a hitch at the East Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, May 27, 2023. The attendance was better than hoped for and many heart felt compliments followed. A highlight of the show was the performance of our guest Quintet from London called Curbstone. These five gentlemen did a marvelous job of showing their audience what five well tuned and timed, a cappella voices could do with a number of well known and popular songs, with a terrific beat box included. The following is a picture of Curbstone as they sing one of Michael Bublé's beautifull songs called Everything.
And so on goes Strathroy's A Cappella Connection throught the year that follows, as they get ready for their next annual, spring show. We'll see you then.

The A Cappella Connection is a chapter of the South Western Division of the Ontario District of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Occasionally a neighbouring chapter of the same division will visit another and enjoy things in song together. On A Cappella Connection's Wednesday night practise of March 29th, 2023, they were visited by London Ontario's Men of accord. Together, these two BHS Chapters support a charitable arm of the Ontario District of the BHS called Harmonize for Speech that in turn, supports projects designed to help speech imaired children and adults to improve their speaking abilities. We Sing That They Shall Speak is a song that we sing to remind us and our audiences of our devotion to this cause and we follow it up with a song called "Keep the Whole World Singing", which is something we like to try to do. Play this video and listen as both chapters sing these two songs together.
With the photo on the left, we would like to acknowledge the services that were generously granted to The Strathroy Vocal Federation (presently the A Cappella Connection) by the man standing beside his latest production. For each and all of our annual shows, Blake Hughes created, with his exceptional, artistic abilities, a stage background like the one shown with him. Blake has since retired from the Chapter and we indeed do miss him, but we wish him our best, with thanks for all he has done for us over the years. |
Before continuing on, there are some members of the former Strathroy Vocal Federation who would like to say HELLO to all visitors to this site, in their own special way in the following video:
As of November 17th, 2018, the members of this chapter, as well as members in chapters all over Southern Ontario, are mourning the loss of the man in that video who said "Hi" after giving us the chance to hear his beautiful bass voice. BIG Jim Mcdougall will most certainly be missed, as he played such an important part in the starting and maintaining of the Strathroy Vocal Federation. Jim spent most of his barbershopping years with London's Men of Accord, and Doug Petch, who is a member of the London chapter, and who has known BIG Jim from when he first started singing with them back in 1960, wrote a fantastic article entitled "Memories of BIG Jim". It was published in the December 2018 issue of the Men of Accord's newsletter called The Clipper and I ask that you click on either of the last two, highlighted links to be taken to the newsletter so that you can read Doug Petch's article, and thankyou Doug.
